Bedfordshire

Bedfordshire is bordered by Cambridgeshire to the north-east, with Bedford as the county town. Other towns include Luton, which is the largest, as well as Leighton Buzzard, Dunstable and Biggleswade.

Bedfordshire boasts an officially designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the stunning Chiltern Hills, which is a chalk escarpment. Other major attractions include Whipsnade Wildlife Park, Woburn Safari Park, Bedford Castle and Luton Hoo.

During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Bedfordshire resident Captain Sir Thomas Moore made headlines for walking lengths of his garden to raise money for charity ahead of his 100th birthday. He raised over £32.79 million and his 100th birthday was marked by flypasts by the Royal Air Force and the British Army.

Major roads running through the county include the M1, A1, A5, A428 and A6.
